Who Is Abraham?
Originally from Northern Illinois, just outside Chicago, Abraham started his grappling career later than most at 25. He left home at 18 after simultaneously joining the Army and going to college. He would eventually join a PhD program in Biochemistry at the University of Oklahoma. While in graduate school, he aimed to find hobbies that would get him out of the lab. He found 2 new passions, the first was Latin dancing, but the next was Jiu-Jitsu. The yin to his yang.
He quickly became obsessed, started competing immediately, and trained daily. From the start of his training, he was buying and studying online instructional videos from his would be New Wave Instructors. This foreshadowed where he would be years later. All the videos culminated in a move to Austin, Texas, to train professionally. He dreamed of studying under instructors John Danaher, Gordon Ryan & Garry Tonon. That vision had become a reality in just 3 short years of training.
Abe has since become known for his popularization of the position “Reverse Closed Guard” (RCG) and his creation of the “Abe Lock.” He has over 60 Abe Lock submissions in high-level & black belt competitions. Even outside his RCG notoriety, he has several notable wins over renowned ADCC & IBJJF veterans. He has medaled 16x at the ADCC Opens in the Expert divisions. He currently ranks #1 in the world at 100 kg in the ADCC Open rankings.
Abraham utilizes his scientific background and 10+ years of teaching experience to bring Jiu-Jitsu to you! His greatest aspiration is to surpass his teachers as a teacher of Jiu-Jitsu.
If you ever want to catch Abe for an in-person class, you might be able to roll with him at Kingsway Jiujitsu, where he trains daily, at an Austin open mat, or at Ralph Gracie Georgetown, where he is one of the head instructors. He currently teaches 3 evenings a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Catch him for a class or contact him for a private!
